FREELAND are celebrating after landing the league and cup double in the top flight for the first time.

Having been crowned

Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division champions, they beat Horspath 3-1 to win the Ben Turner Cup final at Woodstock.

It added to an already memorable season for the club, with the reserves lifting the Clarendon Cup earlier this month.

However, Freeland’s first team were forced to come from behind after Horspath took the lead against the run of play, Conor Foley capitalising on an error to open the scoring.

Freeland responded well, though, and equalised within five minutes thanks to Tom McCudden’s unstoppable effort.

They made it 2-1 before the interval, Jack Morton rounding the goalkeeper to tap home into the net.

Freeland continued to dominate after the break and made sure of victory when Jonny Ayris fired into the roof of the net from a Danny Taylor cross.

A few days earlier, the side completed their league programme in style, beating Garsington 3-0 at home, thanks to goals from Nathan Langford, Jason Lonsdale and Taylor.

Benji Cuff’s hat-trick saw Marston Saints also finish with a convincing victory when earning a 4-2 win over Launton Sports.

Alessandro Sodero was also on target, while Lea White and Lewis Bland hit late consolations for the visitors.

Heyford Athletic closed in on second place after beating Kennington Athletic 2-0 at home, thanks to strikes from Dan Savin and Robert Gosling.

Meanwhile, a last minute penalty saw Kennington Res win the Ivor Gubbins Cup.

Frankie Merola and Leon Blackmore-Such were on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win over Launton Sports Res.

  • CHARLIE Hallala scored a hat-trick as Oxford Brookes beat Great Milton 7-1 at home in the Oxford City FA.

James Berti (2), George Harris and Jon Bebb were also on target for the hosts, with Bradley Boodell netting the visitors’ consolation.
