OXFORD United were unable to finish their home campaign on a high as second-placed Cardiff City claimed a 3-2 victory in the FA Women’s National League last night.
The defeat leaves the U’s fourth in the Southern Premier Division with two games remaining.
United opened the scoring at Court Place Farm on 32 minutes when Ellie Noble cut inside and fired past goalkeeper Poppy Soper into the far corner.
However, three goals in the space of 13 second-half minutes saw Cardiff go 3-1 up.
Grace Horrell equalised on the hour mark, before Kylie Nolan rounded goalkeeper Lucy Thomas and Gwen Davies slotted home the visitors’ third.
United quickly reduced the deficit when Gemma Sims headed home on 75 minutes.
The U’s pushed for an equaliser, but Evie Gane fired just wide in injury time as they were unable to secure a point.
