KENNY Redmond says Oxford City Stars cannot wait to get back in action after the festive break.

A home match against Lee Valley Lions at Oxpens tomorrow (6.15pm) will see the club play their first game of 2018.

And head coach Redmond says with batteries recharged, the players are eager to get back on the ice.

Stars lie fourth in South Division 2 of the English National League, but have played fewer games than all those teams ahead of them in the standings.

“We’ve had a break over Christmas and are all now raring to go again,” Redmond said.

“Competition at the top of the table is fierce and the season will really hot up now.

“We’re in the mix and have games in hand as we start the second half of the season.”

He added: “Key to success will be building momentum, like we did last year.

“The fans can continue to play a massive part and I’m sure they’ll do us proud again on Sunday.”

Redmond moved this week to bolster the squad by signing defenceman James Buckingham, 21, from Haringey Huskies.

Leaving the club, however, is Oxford junior graduate Will Harrison, who has joined Basingstoke Buffalo.

Buckingham goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s clash.

“I’ve coached James before at Slough and know what he’s all about,” said Redmond.

“He is a hard worker and I am sure he will settle into our team quickly and add to our strength in defence.

“We also wish Will well. He felt at this stage in his career he needed more ice time and he has moved on with our blessing.

"We hope to see him back in Oxford colours in the future.”
