KABONGO Tshimanga scored both goals as Oxford City beat Maidenhead United 2-1 after extra time in the Buildbase FA Trophy.

The striker equalised from the penalty spot after the hosts led early in the second half last night, before hitting a 99th-minute winner.

Maidenhead twice struck the woodwork in the opening period, before the game came to life after the break.

City almost took an eighth-minute lead, but Tshimanga’s shot was superbly kept out by home goalkeeper Carl Pentney.

The hosts then hit the bar through Josh Kelly and a post via James Akintunde’s effort, but neither side could find a breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes.

The hosts went ahead through Nana Owusu’s free-kick on 52 minutes.

But City levelled from the penalty spot just six minutes later, Tshimanga slotting home after Craig Fasanmade was fouled.

There was another spot-kick awarded three minutes later, but City keeper Craig King saved Ryan Upward’s effort.

And in extra time Tshimanga proved the hero, tapping home after a Fasanmade shot had been pushed on to the post to seal a second-round clash at Maidstone on Saturday.

Oxford City: King, Jones, Carter, Ashby, Godwin-Malife, Jefford, Fasanmade, Fleet, Tshimanga, Otudeko (Barrett 77), Bawling. Subs not used: Caro, O’Donoghue.

North Leigh picked up a vital three points in their Evo-Stik South League Division 1 Central basement battle at home to Aylesbury.

A 3-1 victory saw the Millers remain in the bottom two, but close to a point of their rivals.

Trailing to Ty Deacon’s second-minute goal, Henry Landers converted penalties in the 28th and 53 minutes, both for fouls on Noah Alabi, to put North Leigh ahead.

Roger James hit No 3 to seal a valuable win.
