MARK Trafford is the All England men’s singles champion.

And in a successful tournament for Oxfordshire players, Pauline Withey was runner-up in the women’s event.

However, Withey went one better in the Ladies’ Grand Prix event, beating Michelle Baden in the final.

In Oxford & District League action, Division 1 side West Oxford Democrats Club won their first match of the season, beating Masons 4-2.

Richard Garrett, Terry Green and Billy Hill triumphed in their singles.

Leaders Vikings Club drew 3-3 at Donnington, Dennis Atkins top-scoring for the home side with 8,270.

Berinsfield and Oracle A also shared the spoils.

Phil McFarland and John Boal won for Berinsfield, but Trafford and Withey (4,250) hit back for Oracle before the pairs were shared.

Headington Conservative Club moved joint top with Gladiators in Division 2 after a 5-1 home victory over Oracle B.

Tim Jeffreys, Keith Hollis and Dave Gordon triumphed.
