OXFORD City bounced back from their midweek Emirates FA Cup exit in style, beating Chelmsford City 4-0 on Saturday.

The manner of their Buildbase FA Trophy victory will have delighted boss Mark Jones, whose side will find out their first-round opponents later today.

Kabongo Tshimanga came close to his third hat-trick of the season, but eventually had to make do with a brace.

The striker opened the scoring with a 13th-minute penalty before doubling the hosts’ lead early in the second half.

Sam Nombe found the net for the first time in his second spell with the club before Zac McEachran rounded off the scoring five minutes from time with a deflected effort.

Frankie Musonda’s recall to parent club Luton Town required a re-shuffle in defence, which saw Udoka Godwin-Malife return to the centre alongside Joe Oastler, allowing Eddie Jones to come in at right back.

City got off to a quick start, Nombe earning his side a corner within a minute of kick-off, before just failing to find Tshimanga with a through ball having taken on multiple players.

The visitors, meanwhile, carved out two early chances, Jonny Giles shooting over before Ben Jefford was forced to clear a header off the line.

City took the lead from the penalty spot after Nombe was brought down in the box, Tshimanga coolly converting.

Home goalkeeper Craig King then produced a fine save from Scott Fenwick.

City doubled their lead in the 53rd minute, Tshimanga scoring after McEachran’s pass.

Nombe made the game safe 16 minutes from time, controlling the ball in the area before neatly placing his shot home.

Fenwick picked up a second yellow card as Chelmsford were forced to play the last 15 minutes a man down.

And City took advantage, McEachran’s shot from the edge of the area taking a deflection on its way into the net.
