OXFORD City boss Mark Jones says his players should be proud of their Emirates FA Cup achievements, writes JAMES ROBERTS.

Despite bowing out after a 2-0 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers in Tuesday’s televised first round replay, their efforts have helped keep the club in the limelight.

Although not able to match last season’s exploits of making the second round, Jones says the run has given everyone a big boost – both on and off the pitch.

“We can’t criticise the players as we’ve done very well,” he said.

“To get to the first round again is a decent achievement.

“We’ve had quite a good crowd here and in front of the TV, which is another good occasion for the club.

“Overall we can be disappointed as we wanted our players to showcase themselves and put on a really good performance.

“But it’s been another good experience.”

Midfielder Josh Ashby added: “We are disappointed, but we try to play a nice style of football and I think the cup runs have definitely helped the club financially.”
