OXFORDSHIRE’S Under 12 team, all playing in their first county match, made a flying start to their season with a 15-5 victory over Buckinghamshire at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

Oxon’s under 20 side also won, beating Avon 11-9 at Abingdon School.

Having lost their first match, the return of several players was key as they edged a thriller.

Christian Mitchell, Jamie Cackett, James Moreton-Smith, Luke Backley, Dan Worth, Natalia Mitchell, Maisie Boyd, Maisie Marriott and Bronwynn Ready made up the team.

Oxfordshire’s Under 16s lost 16-4 against Berkshire at Woodley.

Adam Burden, Harry Jones, Ben Horseman, Albie Marriott, Holly Craig, Rebecca Norkett, Catherine Cousins and Hannah Jones were in action.

Meanwhile, a host of juniors won medals in Badminton England events.

Rebecca Norkett claimed bronze in singles and mixed at the Under 15 Silver tournament in Woodley, with Adam Burden taking silver in doubles and bronze in mixed.

In the Warwick Under 17 Bronze event, Harry Jones won silver in the boy’s singles, while bronze medals went to Maddy Cook (singles and doubles) and Holly Craig (doubles).
