OXFORD United's failure to win after taking a 3-0 lead at Scunthorpe United was inexcusable, according to Cameron Brannagan.

The midfielder scored the visitors' second goal at Glanford Park, building on James Henry's first-half strike.

When Curtis Nelson quickly added a third goal, the only question looked to be how many goals the U's would rack up.

But instead the Iron responded with three goals in six minutes to claim a 3-3 draw which left United's players in disbelief.

Brannagan said: "A few weeks ago you probably would have taken a point, but the way we were playing and the way we were 3-0 up, we shouldn’t be drawing.

"It’s a joke, we should not be drawing, there’s no way around it.

"That’s got to be a win, they were important points for us.

"I’m happy to score, but all I was bothered about was three points. It doesn’t change the way I feel, I’m still gutted."

Boss Karl Robinson thought his side got carried away with their sizeable lead - for which they got heavily punished.

He said: "For the first time ever, we got arrogant.

"We have to play on the edge, there’s the proof.

"When we’re at it, in people’s faces and don’t get caught in zones we don’t want to get caught in, we’re better than most.

"I thought our final third stuff wasn’t great, but we’ve conceded from three set pieces.

"Sometimes when you come away you’ve got to expect they’ll have a period where they get on top of you.

"Unfortunately in that period they scored the goals that allowed them to get back on level terms.

"We’re disappointed, but it moves us to six games without defeat, which is a good run.

"If you get points away from home then you must win your home games."

Robinson also revealed United will be without Samir Carruthers for at least six weeks.

The Sheffield United loanee has been unable to reach full fitness since returning from a knee injury last month.

Scans this week showed a small issue and specialists are due to review them shortly, with the worst case scenario meaning Carruthers will need a small operation which would rule him out for 12 weeks.
