NILE Ranger made his first appearance on trial at Oxford United as their under 23s drew 1-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Peterborough United.

The striker, who began training with the U's last week, came on as a second-half substitute at London Road.

He was part of a side containing several first-team players, including Samir Carruthers, Sam Smith, Jamie Hanson, Luke Garbutt and Cameron Norman.

Smith put United in front on 33 minutes with a calm finish from 12 yards.

Goalkeeper Jack Stevens preserved the lead after the break with a couple of important saves, but was finally beaten by Darren Lyon's precise finish.

Ranger was one of two on-trial strikers to come off the bench, with one of them reportedly coming close to a winner late on.

Oxford Utd: Stevens, Norman, Long, Raglan, Garbutt, Hanson, Heap, R James (Triallist 55), Hopkins (Triallist 60), Carruthers (Taverner 46), Smith.
