PETER Akrill led the way for Oxfordshire’s club runners at the Abingdon Marathon.
More than 700 people took on the 26.2-mile route, which started in misty conditions at Tilsley Park.
Bristol & West AC’s Maciej Bialogonski took victory in 2hrs 26mins 56secs.
But it was 25th-placed Akrill, of hosts Abingdon AC, who was the first local runner home.
He crossed the line in 2.48.24, beating Kidlington RC’s Mark Dilks by eight seconds.
Akrill’s time was also a personal best as he bettered the mark he recently set in the Berlin Marathon.
Woodstock’s Sophie Carter, who was wearing her Belgrave Harriers colours, was the first female home in 54th overall, completing the course in 2.54.05.
Didcot Runners’ David Jackson was also under the three-hour mark, as was Alchester AC’s Ian Hunter, Eynsham RR’s Kerry Papps and Mark Baker, Headington RR’s John Fenning and White Horse Harrier Simon Harris.
Meanwhile, Abingdon’s Jack Shayler was in action at the Bud’s Run 5k, finishing second in 15mins 10secs.
Alchester’s Richard Francis was 14th in the Ampthill Trophy.
