CAOLAN Ryan converted Reon Joseph’s late try to earn Chinnor a thrilling 20-20 draw at home to Old Elthamians.

The result keeps the Thame-based side within touching distance of the leaders as, despite slipping to sixth, they are only four points off the top in National League 1.

Two Ryan penalties helped Chinnor lead 6-3 at half-time, with Tom White replying for the visitors.

They extended their advantage to ten points when Craig Holland gathered Kieran Goss’ grubber and raced over, Ryan converting.

Elthamians hit back through Freddie Hosking and went 17-13 up when Hamish Barton crossed, White converting.

The latter looked to have sealed victory for the visitors when he kicked a penalty.

But Chinnor had other ideas and Greg Goodfellow’s superb break led to Joseph racing over in the last play, before Ryan held his nerve to convert under pressure.

Henley Hawks climbed to third in National League 2 South when beating Worthing Raiders 31-22 at home.

Jonathan Dawe crossed early on for the visitors, who quickly had a player sin-binned, resulting in the hosts replying through Alex Bradley.

Matt McLean’s penalty put Raiders 8-5 up at the break.

But Henley crucially scored three times in the space of 15 second-half minutes.

Leo Webb and Bradley crossed either side of a penalty try, Roddy Giles converting the latter.

McLean converted his own try to reduce the arrears, however Hawks made sure of victory when Xavier Andre cut through and Giles added the extras.

Raiders did cross again through Dawe, McLean converting, but Henley had already done enough.
