OXFORD University scored 16 tries to earn a dominant 102-0 victory over Pacific Islanders at Iffley Road.

John Aaron Henry, Ed David, Tom Stileman, Robbie Fraser and George Warr all crossed twice as the Dark Blues ran riot under the lights.

Seb Haddock, Sam Miller, Sven Kerneis, Dan Barley, Josh Navarajasegaran and Tobi Clarke were also among the try scorers as the students reached triple figures in a fixture they found far too easy.

While the hosts enjoyed the free-scoring nature of the fixture, they did have to be wary of several high tackles, one of which led to a red card for Islanders centre Pio Tuwai.

This only added to the visitors’ frustrations, while the Dark Blues cruised to victory.

The students opened the scoring on nine minutes through Haddock following fine work from Stileman and Barley. Fly half Tom Humberstone converted to make it 7-0.

Oxford’s lead was soon extended to 12 points when hooker Henry was pushed over for an unconverted score as Humberstone’s kick was blown off course by a strong wind which affected the early stages of the first half.

It did not take long until they were seemingly out of sight with winger Stileman, who shrugged off three tacklers to go over, and flanker Miller crossing, Humberstone converting, to make it 26-0 after just 23 minutes.

It took Oxford ten minutes to add to their tally, but No 8 Kerneis was next on the scoresheet, driving over from close range on his debut and giving Humberstone an easy conversion in front of the posts.

The visitors looked frustrated and their night was further compounded when Tuwai was red-card following a horrendous challenge on Fraser.

Oxford’s full back was thankfully all right and the hosts inflicted more misery on their opponents when Barley and Henry crossed again, Humberstone converting both tries, to make it 47-0 at half-time.

With it only being October, it is still early days in the Dark Blues’s Varsity Match preparations and, while it was not testing their defensive discipline, it was ample try-scoring practice.

It only took them 30 seconds of the second half to extend their advantage, Fraser crossing for an unconverted try, before David ran from inside his own half to cross, Humberstone adding the extras.

Islanders were second best to everything and Oxford’s quick-footed backline continuously exploited their lack of pace.

But the tall figure of lock George Robson, who has more than 200 games under his belt from a nine-year spell at Harlequins, also impressed in the way he led a Dark Blues pack which continuously had their opponents on the backfoot.

It was soon 64-0 when a period of sustained pressure led to space out wide and winger David raced over for his second try.

The misery did not stop for the visitors and they were quickly dispossessed, resulting in replacement Warr going over, Dylan McGagh converting.

David then unselfishly offloaded to Clarke to race over for Oxford’s 11th try, before Navarajasegaran added to the students’ tally, McGagh converting the latter.

Islanders enjoyed a rare period of pressure on the student’s ten-metre line, but Nela Hakalo dropped the ball at a vital moment.

With Oxford leading by 83 unanswered points, the match was over as a contest but there was still time for Stileman, Fraser and Warr to add to the try count, McGagh converting twice.

The visitors were relieved to hear the final whistle as the Dark Blues had well and truly put them to the sword.
