DIDCOT Town booked their place in the preliminary round of the Buildbase FA Trophy after a 3-1 victory over Thamesmead Town on Saturday.

But Andy Ballard’s side had to come from behind to seal a home tie against Hertford Town on October 13.

Thamesmead took the lead on the 37th minute when a poor clearance from home goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell allowed Trey Williams to score into an empty goal.

Didcot levelled with the final move of the half, Stuart Cattell looping home a header at the near post.

The visitors began the second period strongly and Seth Humphries was forced to make a last-ditch goalline clearance on 47 minutes to keep the Railwaymen level.

And against the run of play, Didcot then went ahead when David Murphy slotted home.

Morgan Williams and Callum McNish fired wide in quick succession as the hosts looked to make the game safe.

And their pressure finally told when Murphy laid the ball off to McNish, who calmly made it 3-1.
