KARL Robinson said he was not worried about his position as Oxford United head coach after seeing his side lose 2-1 at home to Walsall.

James Henry’s late goal proved to be just a consolation as the defeat kept the U’s second bottom in Sky Bet League One.

Robinson had started the day alongside chairman Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth at a fans’ forum, where there was talk of the ambition to make the club sustainable in the Championship.

But that looked a long way off in a game where chances were again not converted and mistakes at the back were punished.

Robinson cut a dejected figure afterwards, but insisted he was not concerned about his job security.

“No, that’s football, it doesn’t bother me one bit,” he said.

“People (in the club) know what I do and people know how good we can be. People know how hard we work.

“If people want to make that decision that’s their choice. Unless they can go and get Houdini in, maybe he might help.”

The struggles in the league, which have brought just one win so far, have taken the some of the gloss off tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup tie against Manchester City.

Robinson admitted it did not matter “one bit” and although the U’s boss plans to have refocused by this morning, the situation was taking its toll.

He said: “I’m just frustrated, because I know how good I can be at my job.

“Everything I work on and everything we do, the time and effort my staff put in, they’re not getting their rewards on the pitch.

“How many times can you keep taking that? How many times on a Friday can I find out another player is injured?

“How many times on a Saturday morning can I find out a player is not right, or not well?

“How many times can you keep going on when the results aren’t going right and players are falling by the wayside?

“It’s hurting me. It should do if you care, but I’ve got to make sure when I come in on Monday I’m the same person I am all the time.”

He added: “You’re just looking for something to fall in your favour – right now nothing’s falling for anybody.

“The performance was certainly there, but the result says we lost and that’s the only thing that matters.”
