DESPITE shooting a four-under par final round of 67, Eddie Pepperell had to settle for joint second place in the Portugal Masters at Vilamoura.
The Abingdon golfer, who shared the halfway lead, started the final round four shots behind the leader Australian Lucas Herbert after a third-round 68.
The Frilford Heath member, seeking a high finish to boost his chance of a place in the world's top 50, birdied two of the first five holes of his final round, but dropped a shot at the seventh.
He responded by picking up a shot at the eighth hole, and had three more birdies on the back nine, before a bogey at the last saw him finish with a 67 and a total of 19-under-par 265.
That was three shots behind the winner Tom Lewis, and a share of second place with Herbert, who double-bogeyed the last.
