GEORGIA Timms’s opener was in vain for Oxford United as they lost 2-1 to Watford in the FA Women’s National League.

In their first game of the season at Court Place Farm, the U’s made a strong start.

Laura Hennessey forced two excellent early saves from Watford goalkeeper Veronika Baranousa.

The pressure paid off in the 19th minute, when Timms raced on to Ellie Noble’s pass and slotted into the net.

Watford finished the first half on top and equalised on 55 minutes through Katie O’Leary.

Timms saw a shot saved by Baranousa before striking an upright with another effort as United pushed for a winner.

But instead Watford pinched the points in the 87th minute, when Helen Ward’s shot beat Lucy Thomas.

The U’s will have an immediate opportunity to bounce back, when they host Milton Keynes Dons Ladies tonight (7.45pm).

United: Thomas, Roberts, Mobbs, Haynes, Bent, Allen, Noble, Fyfe, Hennessey (Allison 63), Timms, Baker
