ANDY Benwell won the tenth round of the Ace Tackle and Bait Oxford Carp League at Oakfield Fishery.

Due to the wind, the preferred pegs proved to be at the far end of Red Kite Lake and the Kidlington angler came out on top.

Benwell caught mainly carp on pellets on the long pole for a winning weight of 114lb 4oz 0drms.

Dave Scott, fishing method feeder to begin with and later 11m pole with banded hard pellet hookbait over loose fed pellets, was second with 109.2.0.

The league’s front-runner Steve Cantwell (Harwell) finished third with 104.6.0.

Wayne Gray completed a perfect two days to land the ODAA/Littlemore AS Thames Shield at Sandford and Donnington.

He beat Brian Hutchings by a point and landed an overall weight of 35.4.0.

Gray triumphed on both days and started by fishing caster on the pole over groundbait at Sandford for a mixed net of roach and perch at 12.3.0.

He used the same tactics at Donnington, where he had skimmers, roach and perch for 23.1.0.

Hutchings came second after finishing in the top two on the first day, while third-placed Jason Bean was beaten by Gray in the second event.

Dave Scott-Picton won North Oxford AS’s Trout Inn Open on the Thames at Godstow.

Fishing chopped worm, he triumphed with 6.7.0 of perch and roach.

Maurice Winstone was second

with 5.4.0 and Andy Crisp third with 3.5.0.

Terry Lester was victorious at the Wayne Hagar Memorial match on the Cherwell at Bransons end with a weight of 2.11.8.

Alan Steele (1.13.8) and Ron Hillier (1.9.8) were second and third respectively.
