OXFORD City boss Mark Jones is urging his side not to get carried away as they look to continue their excellent start to the season at Welling United.

The manager, whose side are unbeaten in five Vanarama National League South games, believes tomorrow’s opponents will go into the game with even more confidence than his own team.

Welling thrashed previously-unbeaten Concord Rangers 5-0 on Bank Holiday Monday and Jones is aware of their threat.

“We’re in pretty good form and we are satisfied with our start,” Jones said.

“But things can change very quickly in football, and Welling have just come off the back of a cracking win against Concord.

“Their manager (Steve King) is one of the most successful at this level.

“That said, we don’t need to go there with an inferiority complex. If we can produce a similar performance to our recent ones, we can go there and get a result.”

City defeated Wealdstone 3-0 on Monday – a result which puts them into the top ten.

But they are still without long-term injury victims Rob Sinclair (hamstring), Abraham Eze (dislocated shoulder) and Josh Ashby (knee).

Carl Stewart (hamstring) and Ben Jefford (Achilles) are also doubts.

Jones said: “We don’t think Josh’s injury is too serious, but he tweaked his knee against St Albans and having had a serious problem previously, we need to be a bit careful with him.

“Rob and Abraham are more of a concern and are out for a while, so we are a bit short at the moment.”

Jones added: “I’ve been really pleased with our efforts in the last few games. We’ve been a bit light on numbers, but we have a better character as a group than perhaps we had last year.

“I’m certainly not getting carried away thinking we’ve cracked it though. We need to keep this togetherness and will to win going.”
