TODAY’S British Grand Prix was forced to be cancelled after heavy rain left standing water on parts of the track at Silverstone.

The start time had been brought forward by 90 minutes to 11:30 because of the forecast.

But the race was cancelled just after 4pm with MotoGP having said there was “no option” to hold it on Monday.

The news was a real blow for Oxfordshire rider Bradley Smith, who on Saturday had qualified in eighth place for the KTM Red Bull team – his best performance of the season.

The 27-year-old, who will not be riding in MotoGP next season, had admitted before the race it could be his last chance to compete in a grand prix in front of his home supporters.
