OXFORD City boss Mark Jones has warned his side to be on their guard when they travel to Weston-super-Mare in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow.

Although their hosts have yet to pick up a victory this season, Jones insists City will have to be at their best to pick up a positive result in the west country.

City go into the game without playmaker Rob Sinclair, who has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a torn hamstring, while Josh Ashby (knee) is also sidelined.

Jones said: “I’ve watched a couple of their games this season, and they are not a bad side at all.

“They play some great football and have a reputation in this league of trying to do things in the right manner.

“They will be desperate to pick up their first win of the season before their own fans.

“Our record down there is not good, so I’m expecting an incredibly difficult game.”

City, who have posted back-to-back victories against Torquay and St Albans, welcome back defenders Ben Jefford and Luke Ruddick, both of whom missed the 2-1 win over the latter through suspension.

Midfielder Arti Krasniqi (groin) is also a major doubt, while striker Abraham Eze, who dislocated his shoulder against Torquay is another long-term injury.

Jones has moved quickly to bring in cover by signing midfielder Carl Stewart – a former professional at Watford.

The manager said: “Carl has been in the Watford Under 23 set-up for three or four years, but they didn’t renew his contract for this season.

“I know him well from my time coaching at Watford, and he’s a very highly-regarded central midfielder.

“He will be a very good signing.

“He is technically gifted and still only 21. He is hungry to succeed and contribute to the team.”

With Wealdstone due to visit Court Place Farm on Monday, City will be eager to pick up victory at Weston as they look to continue their solid start to the season.
