Luke Foster and Marvin Robinson are likely to be fined after being sent home for arriving 45 minutes late at the team's pre-match meal.
And manager Jim Smith hopes it's a lesson all the United players can learn from.
"It's not the first time with those boys that they've been, not overly unprofessional, but not professional enough," he said.
"You give them the opportunity, and try to do everything for them that's right.
"You can do it once, and you might get away with it in terms of traffic or whatever - and we do have too many travelling, which is one of the problems with Oxford United because people can't afford houses in Oxford - but you know that travelling is murderous and you've got to leave an hour earlier. It's as simple as that."
At least one of them would probably have been on the bench at Stevenage.
But Smith refuted any suggestion that their lateness disrupted the team.
"Quite the opposite," he said, "it probably gelled us."
