OXFORD City boss Mark Jones says Tuesday’s morale-boosting victory over Torquay United should kick-start their season.

St Albans City travel to Court Place Farm in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow with the hosts buoyed by a first success over full-time opponents who are tipped to be challenging for promotion.

A Rob Sinclair goal in the first half gave City a valuable three points in midweek, and Jones’s side will hope to string back-to-back wins together against the Hertfordshire side tomorrow.

“I was delighted to finally be able to celebrate a victory on Tuesday,” Jones said.

“I thought we played exceptionally well in the first half and although the second half was a different challenge, where we had to really dig in, we showed great resolve and determination.

“We got a little bit of luck that we deserved, and were delighted with the performance.

“We had to show a lot of character and defended well, and it was important that we won the game.

“We didn’t want to go into our next game still without a win.

“We must take this on to the next game against St Albans, which will be another tough game, but we’ve got to use the momentum of Tuesday ahead of tomorrow’s game.”

City will be without defenders Luke Ruddick and Ben Jefford, who both serve one-match bans after being sent off at Woking last weekend.

Eze Ibrahim is also out after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the dying moments of Tuesday’s game.

Jones is hoping to add a loan signing in time for tomorrow’s match, while he also names midfielder Mike Atkinson in the squad.

“Although we got the win on Tuesday, there is still plenty for us to work on,” Jones added.

“There were a couple of opportunities for us in midweek on the break when if we had picked the right pass we could have been in and scored again and you do have to take those chances.

“But I am full of praise for the players, because it was important to get that first victory and hopefully we can take that into our next game and really push on now.
