OXFORD United's owners want to reduce the club's losses by around £470,000 over the next three years, they revealed last night.
Ian Lenagan told a Fans' Forum at the Kassam Stadium that he hoped the present loss of £720,000 can be reduced bit by bit each year.
But Lenagan said he and co-owners Nick Merry wouldn't contemplate cost-cutting if it impacted on the team's performances or chances of success.
"The current projection is that a loss of somewhere around £430,000 is what will be achieved this year," Lenagan said.
"One of the mistakes we've made is thinking that, with Jim Smith's great contacts, we'd have another lucrative pre-season, but we've lost £118,000 compared to last year on that.
"You simply can't get Man Utd every year."
