Oxford United goalkeeping legend Alan Judge, who has pitted his wits against some of the best strikers around, is tackling another big challenge, of becoming a successful coach.

Judge, 47, is two games into his role as coach at British Gas Business Southern League Division 1 South & West side Abingdon United, where he works alongside boss Andy Slater.

He took over from Mickey Lewis when he returned to be the U's youth team coach.

And he is loving every minute of it.

"I am enjoying it immensely, " said Judge, after taking charge of the team in Tuesday's derby against Oxford City in the absence of Slater who was on holiday.

"I can't play for ever. I played 50 games last season and for a man of 47 that is a lot.

"As a goalkeeping coach I was used to working with individuals, but now I have to look at the team as a whole.

"But I can't ask for a better person than Andy Slater as a mentor."

Judge added: "I looked after Slough Town reserves for a season and the youth team, but I have little experience.

"It's always been an ambition of mine to run a team and get into management. I intend to get some coaching badges, which was difficult when I was playing.

"Now I have decided to stop playing and to start running teams."

Abingdon have Michael Alexis back after suspension for tomorrow's home game against Fleet Town.

Dean Moss is at a wedding, while Anaclet Odhiambo (hamstring) is doubtful.

Striker Michael Bartley is set to make his full Didcot Town debut when they travel to Windsor & Eton.

Bartley came on as sub against Marlow on Tuesday.

Injured duo Jack King (ankle) and Matty Jack (ankle) miss out while Paul Powell (trapped nerve) is doubtful.

Oxford City are without Jon Gardner for their trip to Taunton.

The ex-Banbury United winger suffered a groin injury in Tuesday's derby clash at Abingdon United.

Banbury United will give a late fitness test to skipper Andy Baird (knee) ahead of their Premier Division home clash with Chippenham.

Fellow striker Troy Bryan (hamstring) and Andrew Stidder (ankle) should be fit.

They will be without Jody McKay (holiday) and Ady Fuller (wedding).

"We are in confident mood," said boss Kieran Sullivan, whose side have drawn both opening games.

"It's a solid start, but we need to push on and score a few more goals."
