Banbury Central's father and son Les and Will Campion, together with skip Mark Sykes, reached the last eight of the English National Triples at Worthing.

The Central trio came through four rounds before falling victim to a late onslaught from Glyn Walls, Mark Wilson and Paul Wilson (Ford Sports, Ilford), who took victory 16-13.

Having led 12-8, Sykes's side found themselves all square at 13-13 before the Ford Sports triple booked their place in the last four.

Earlier, Sykes and the Campions beat off England international Grant Burgess's Gilt Edge, Kidderminster trio of Chris Garfield and Marc Stones 17-14 in the last 16.

In the previous round, they brushed aside skip Andrew Knapper, Neil Davies and Mark Clisby, from Desborough, Berkshire, 19-7.

That came after a nail-biting 16-15 victory over Hexham Elvaston's Craig Cooper, Malcolm Cooper and Cyril Hickman, and a 13-9 success against Stacey Dickinson, Martin Pavey and Nick Voss, from Dorchester.

Banbury Borough's Colin Whitehead, Keith Holloway and Richard Redford fell 23-8 to William Jackson, Geoff Paskitt and Kevin Rands, from Perry Sports, Lincolnshire, in the first round.

Holloway and Redford enjoyed better fortune in the pairs where they reached the third round before crashing out 28-11 to Colin Fowkes and Vernon Gearey, from Kingsthorpe, Northants.

In the second round, Holloway and Redford had edged past Keith Searle and Ralph Bailey, from Warlingham Park, Surrey, 22-19.

And in their opener, they swept aside Nick Skidmore and Paul Cater, from West Ealing, Middlesex, 21-11.

Witney Mills's Jim Wells and Richard Barnett bowed out in the second round with a 23-14 defeat by Sandwich's Colin Goldsmith and Gordon Charlton.

In the first round, they beat Uxbridge's Mike Kopp and Nigel Ward 31-11.

Hagbourne duo Malcolm Edney lost 18-17 to Frank Howard and Brian Hennessy, from Bournemouth Park, Essex in the first round.
