Nelson were crowned champions in Section 1 of the Oxford & District League after another faultless 6-0 home victory against Masons A.

Ray Sturgess (10,030 and 11,660, break 11,470) started the ball rolling by winning both his games.

Keith Sheard (19,790, break 15,010, and 16,930, break 15,790) and Pauline Withey (10,950, break 10,280, and 7,440) then wrapped up the victory.

Withey was in top form the previous week at the Dolphin, recording her best-ever score of 17,380 after 32 years of playing.

Dolphin finished runners-up, a single point ahead of third-placed Didcot Conservative Club.

The big match in Section 2 saw Democrats pull off a brilliant 5-1 home win over leaders Tandem.

Richard Garrett (3,400 and 4,880), Billy Hill (5,100 and 7,420) and Bob Parsons (8,640, break 7,840) won the first five games.

Tandem's Ian Moss salvaged a point, scoring 8,340, including a break of 5,780.

Masons B bounced back from losing the first game at home to Berinsfield SC to run out 5-1 winners.

Geoff Mace (6,790) got Berinsfield off the mark, but Mason stormed back through Ernie Smith (10,140 and 4,410), Dave Butt (6,060) and Jason Smith (2,200 and 6,990).

Democrats entertain Masons tonight needing five points to win the section, while Masons need all six points.

Corner House took a giant step towards the Section 3 title with a 5-1 home win against Dolphin B.

Don Jenkins (7,640 and 2,040), Dave Thomson (3,490) and Bob Allsworth (9,970 and 9,510) saw Corner House home.

Presentations will take place on Thursday, September 6 at the Corner House along with the Old Uns v Young Uns seven-a-side challenge match.
