MINSTER Lovell won the Oxfordshire Under 15 title for the first time as they saw off Middleton Cheney by 66 runs in the final.

Choosing to bat first, Minster got off to a flying start as openers James Mattinson and Will Daft shared a partnership of 90.

Daft led the way with an excellent 53, before retiring, while Mattinson scored 49 as Minster set an imposing total of 175-3 from their 20 overs.

Harry Boynton scored 36 and Tristan Marriott 25 in reply, but Middleton were all out for 109.

Charlie Driver took 3-13, while Alex Fraser returned 3-19.

Minster now travel to the winners of the Bucks champions Great Brickhill in the first national round tomorrow.

  • Oxfordshire Over 50’s B team are on course to land the Southern Counties Seniors Championship for a third successive year after winning their first six matches.

In their last two games, they comfortably chased targets of more than 200 runs.

Surrey B made 227-9 at Aston Rowant, but the hosts got home by four wickets thanks to Ross Buchanan (66), Steve Bowles (51) and Andrew Hodder-Williams (49).

Oxon’s latest victory came against Hertfordshire B at Potters Bar, where the hosts posted 220-8. But an unbroken partnership of 146 between Buchanan (66no) and David Warner (69no) saw Oxon home by seven wickets.

  • Oxfordshire Under 17s began their warm-up for their ECB Championship season with a five-wicket defeat away to a strong Midlands Academy side at Studley.

The visitors got off to a flying start as Archie Davis (68) and Luke Maslen (54) shared an opening stand of 118.

Prav Chahal chipped in with 33, but the lower order contributed little and they were bowled out in the 49th over for 225.

The Midland side, led by Vijay Sinha (84), replied with 226-5. Spinner George Tait was the pick of the|Oxon attack taking 2-49 from 9.2 overs.

  • Meanwhile, Oxfordshire Women had mixed fortunes when they hosted a triangular T20 day against Devon and Bucks at Watlington.

The hosts lost by two runs to Devon, despite 46 by Carla Wood, but beat Bucks by 36 runs, thanks to 56 not out from Genny Porter.
