HEAD coach Kenny Redmond will stay at Oxford City Stars after signing a new contract.

The Scot led the Oxpens Road-based ice hockey outfit to the league and cup double last season.

And he will still be in charge for the 2018-19 campaign as they bid to build on their success in English National League South Division 2.

The news comes days after the club was taken over by assistant coach and former player Scott Gough.

He, along with board members Jo Mundy and Greig Box Turnbull, were quick to secure Redmond’s services.

And the head coach had no hesitation in putting pen to paper on a new contract.

Redmond said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at Oxford and am encouraged by the vision for the future.

“I really enjoyed last season.

“It’s a special club and I am fully behind Scott and the guys.

“Everyone is looking forward to the new season and progressing the club in all areas.

“It’s important we continue to grow, and I am encouraged by the plans to work with the juniors on a Stars’ development pathway to produce local players of the future.”

Redmond is also confident he will retain the nucleus of his squad.

He said: “I’ve spoken to most of the guys and had a lot of very positive conversations and fans should see signings over the next few weeks.”
