ANDY Ballard says he is glad common sense has prevailed after Didcot Town were switched to the East Division of the Evo-Stik South League.

The Railwaymen, who were originally kept in the West section, swap places with Evesham United, saving the club 600 miles of travelling.

It ends a farcical situation which saw Didcot first appeal to the FA 13 days ago.

Ballard’s side were initially kept in the West Division and Cinderford Town – located just 14 miles from Wales – were placed in the East.

The withdrawal of Andover Town saw Cinderford moved back into the West, but Didcot remained there.

However, the Railwaymen joined forces with Evesham, who appealed after being placed in the East section, at the end of last week.

Didcot now join local rivals North Leigh, Kidlington and Thame United in the East.

Manager Ballard said: “I’m glad the league and the FA have seen sense.

“I’m surprised the decision has taken so long, but we can now begin to look at potential new signings for next season.

“It’s great news for the club and the players as the mileage will be less.

“We keep our local derbies and we get to visit some new clubs. We’re all very much looking forward to getting started.”

However, Didcot have been dealt a blow in losing top-scorer Felipe Barcelos to Banbury United.

The Puritans have also signed Lee Henderson, Jacob Whitmore and Eddie Odhiambo, with Tom Winters and Elliot Sandy departing.

Meanwhile, Oxford City have re-signed five players.

Craig King, Eddie Jones, Zac McEachran, Udoka Godwin-Malife and Reece Fleet have agreed new deals with the Vanarama National League South club.
