NORTH Oxford’s men claimed a stunning 10-2 victory over Halton in their Team Tennis National Division home match.
The visitors fielded a more highly-ranked team, but North Oxford rose to the occasion.
Jon Maskens came from behind to beat a player rated 1.1, the highest in the UK below an ATP world ranking.
Both Ben Calnan and Jeff Hunter also defeated higher-ranked players.
After such hard-fought losses in the singles, Halton looked to have given up the fight when it came to the second round doubles which the home side won with ease in the cold and windy conditions.
It was a good week for North Oxford, whose Oxfordshire League Division 1 team of David Soanes, Jason Oliver, Laurie Mackenzie,
Peter Browning and Paul Dyer defeated Abingdon 10-2.
