BANBURY Chestnuts' George Schwab became the youngest winner of the Oxfordshire Bowling Association's Allison Cup - at the age of just 16.

The talented teenager triumphed 21-18 over Witney Town's Brian Bloomfield at Banbury Central in the final of the competition for players who have yet to be awarded a county badge.

In the semi-finals, Schwab ran out a 21-10 winner over Cotswold's Shane Cooper, another of the county's under 25 bowlers.

Bloomfield led from the start against Thame's Adie Twinn, but, needing only one shot for the game, dropped six before winning 21-16.

Rover's Paul Comley captured the Officers Cup with a 21-7 win over Charlbury's Mike Woodward at the same venue.

Comley's left-hand bowling suited the ditch hand in the final of the competition for club or county officials, and his Charlbury opponent had no answer.

In the semi-finals, Comley defeated Witney Town's Mike Jones 21-11, while Woodward triumphed 21-10 against Blackbird Leys bowler Bobby Payne, who wasn't helped by an early morning journey from Kent.

In the third final at Banbury Central, Oxford City & County's Mike Petersen retained the Longford Cup with a 21-17 victory over newly-crowned Oxfordshire singles champion Ian Whelpton, from the host club.

The pair were locked together at 17-17 in the 26-end final, but Petersen emerged victorious over the last three ends.
