OXFORD’S Adrian Yung finished off his week at the English Alpine Championships with a top-half finish to confirm his status as one of the country’s best young skiers.

The 13-year-old competes for the CDC Performance team and has been in action in Bormio, Italy, at the Rossignol-sponsored event which showcases the next generation of top British skiers.

And the Oxfordshire alpine racer started his week off with his best result of the Championships, a seventh-place finish in the Super G, before taking 11th in the second Super G and 15th in the giant slalom.

Yung is now planning on returning to training with the intention of breaking into the top five in his events, and will compete at the British Championships next month in pursuit of those goals.

“It’s been all right here this week,” said Yung.

“I haven’t quite got the results I was hoping for but I guess I’m coming away with plenty of things I need to work on and I’ve got plenty of ideas of what to do.

“My favourite thing this week was the Super G, I’ve done the best in that and I just enjoy all Super Gs I think, they are always a bit faster and more exhilarating.

“My next race is the British Championships. I’m doing all the events there so I’m going to get plenty of training done before then.

“Bormio has been a great week overall anyway.”
