Abingdon United defender Andy Ballard could be on his way to Blue Square South side Eastbourne Borough.

The former Oxford City player, who spent last season at Northcourt Road, is on trial at the Sussex club.

And he could be on his way if he impresses.

Abingdon boss Andy Slater said it would be a blow to lose Ballard, but added: "Best of luck to Andy. I hope it works out for him.

"I never like to stand in the way of players wanting to move up to a higher league."

Meanwhile, Slater has boosted his squad after snapping up ex-Oxford City winger Jack Smillie from Marlow.

Abingdon could be without striker Billy Beechers for the start of their British Gas Business Southern League Division 1 South & West campaign.

The former Oxford United forward, who joined earlier this month, suffered a bad ankle injury during their 3-2 friendly defeat against Hungerford Town.

Manager Andy Slater said: "He rolled it and he's going to be out for around three weeks."

ABINGDON United's friendly at Northampton Spencer on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
