OXFORD United have completed the signing of Celtic defender Fiacre Kelleher.
Despite speculation linking head coach Michael Appleton with a move to Leicester City, the U’s have bolstered their ranks with the capture of the 21-year-old Irish centre half.
Although well aware of the rumours surrounding the United boss, Kelleher, who stands at 6ft 5ins, said he had no hesitation in joining.
“Not at all,” he said.
“I came here for the club and whether he stays or goes the club will still be run brilliantly.
“I hope everything can go to plan for me.”
Kelleher played for Avondale in Ireland before being spotted by Scottish Premier giants Celtic.
He did not make a first-team appearance for the Hoops, but spent the second half of last season on loan at Peterhead, making 25 starts.
Kelleher has signed a two-year deal at United, with the club holding the option of a further 12 months.
He said: “I got a call from my agent about two weeks ago saying Oxford were interested.
“I went away on holiday for a week, but when I came back it was nearly sorted.
“I told them I really wanted to do something and I am really happy.
“It was coming to the stage when I wasn’t getting much of a chance at Celtic.
“Now is the chance to get out and show what I’m capable of. It’s my time to shine I hope.”
