TWO late birdies ensured Eddie Pepperell made a promising start to the Hero Indian Open in New Delhi this morning.
The Abingdon golfer carded a three-under-par 69 at the European Tour event to leave him a shot behind leader Matteo Manassero.
Although he could drop down the leaderboard before the end of today, Pepperell is in a strong position ahead of tomorrow's second round.
The 26-year-old recovered from a bogey at the par-five fourth to birdie the sixth, eighth and ninth holes.
Pepperell moved to three-under-par at the 11th, before dropping shots at the 14th and 15th.
But the Frilford Heath member bounced back with successive birdies at the 17th and 18th holes to move up the leaderboard.
