DRENNAN Oxford sealed the Angling Trust Oxford Winter League title by landing both individual team honours in the sixth and final round on the Oxford Canal.

Six teams of eight fished the stretch from Kidlington to Oxford and Drennan’s Mick Denton was the top man of the day with a catch of 15lb 9oz from the peg at Yarnton Lane.

Dave Johnson (Sensas A4) was second with 12.1, while Isis’s Alan Brown came third with 11.3.

Drennan’s victory on the day gave them the team crown by seven points from runners-up Isis. Both teams progress to the national final on the Fens’ Drains and Decoy Lakes in Cambridgeshire in late February.

The league’s overall individual winner was Drennan’s Carl Eland with 32 points out of 36.

Final standings: 1 Drennan Oxford 8pts, 2 Sensas A4 15, 3 Drennan ODAA 19.

Terry Lester won Kidlington AS’s Christmas match, fished on the Bransons end of the River Cherwell.

Lester saw off 12 rivals, catching roach and dace on maggot and caster fished on the pole for a winning weight of 5.11.8.

Peter Oliver came second with 4.3.12, with Alan Steele third on 3.6.4.
