JAROSLAV Cesky’s late goal could not prevent Oxford City Stars slipping to a 2-1 defeat at English National League South Division 1 leaders Chelmsford Chieftains.
A tightly-contested match was goalless until the 26th minute, when Slovakian forward Juraj Huska snuck the puck past Stars netminder Tom Annetts.
Plenty of strong defensive work continued on both sides, but Huska struck again to double Chieftains’ lead three minutes into the third period.
Cesky quickly pulled a goal back, firing into the net after a pass from Ben Nethersell on 46 minutes.
For the remainder of the period Stars piled on the pressure in a bid to draw level.
But despite a powerplay late on, there was no way through.
The defeat, Stars’ fourth in a row, saw them slip two places to fourth place.
