POPPY Webb and her Oxford Hawks clubmate Rowena Hearn have been invited to join the England Under 16 squad after impressing in a Futures Cup tournament at St Albans.
The Futures Cup was a four-day residential tournament with six teams competing in the U16 and U18 age groups – Scotland, Wales and four regional teams from England (Mercia, Pennine, Saxon and Wessex).
Hearn, from Headington School, who plays for the Hawks 1st XI, and St Edward’s pupil Webb represented Mercia (Central England), who won their pool matches against Wales 7-0 and Scotland 2-1.
Hearn scored twice against Wales.
In the final, Mercia went down 5-2 to Wessex, but the Hawks girls picked up silver medals.
Webb was also chosen as the Mercia player to receive an Adidas kit award.
