Oxfordshire athletes Jonny Lodowski and Claire Triggs came away with silver medals at the South of England AA Under 20 Track & Field Championships at Crystal Palace.

Lodowski stormed through his 400m hurdles heat with flying colours, clocking the fastest qualifying time in the under 20 men's section at 54.8secs.

The final was a close-run affair, with UK No 6 Michael Baker taking gold and Lodowski silver in 54.3 - just three-hundreths of a second outside his personal best.

Lodowski's performance earned him automatic selection into the south of England team at the national finals in September.

Triggs ran an equally impressive heat in the under 20 women's 400m, qualifying in the fastest time with a personal best of 55.57.

In the final, she came up against Winchester runner Holly Croxford, who took the gold, breaking a 19-year-old championship record.

However, Triggs further improved her personal best, clocking 55.28 to take silver.

The pair, who now run for Enfield & Haringey, are coached by Veronica Boden, who was overjoyed at their success.

She said: "I am so proud of them both. The amount of time and dedication they have put in has definitely paid off.

"Jonny has only been hurdling for 15 months and his performance was outstanding.

"I'm especially pleased for Claire, as she suffered a serious knee injury last year and missed most of last season and all of our winter training."
