Oxford captain Jason Harrison showed his class with a valuable century in his side's derby clash away to derby rivals Banbury on Saturday.

But chances of a positive result to the eagerly-awaited clash were dashed by the weather.

Batting first, Oxford scored 226-5 from their 66 overs, but rain interruptions restricted Banbury's reply by 11 overs and they finished on 121-4.

But Harrison, who joined Oxford this season from High Wycombe, will be pleased with his day's work after his side were inserted in damp conditions.

Patience and technique are Harrison's chief virtues and he used both these both to good effect as he batted throughout the innings for an unbeaten 103.

He struck two sixes and only four fours in his 196-ball innings, but gave Oxford a platform for a healthy total.

The required momentum came from in-form Ian Crosby, who struck 42 off 41 balls with a six and three fours.

For Banbury, Ryan Newhook and Jaimie Noble produced economical spells.

After the early loss of Ian Hawtin to Stuart Hole, Andrew Sabin and Benjy Hector stabilised the Banbury innings.

However, the interruptions and some tidy bowling meant that chasing the target became unrealistic and they played out time without undue alarm.
