Dark Hondo followed up his runners-up spot in last year's William Hill Cesarewitch final with a superb victory in Tuesday's decider.

With trainer Paul Foster abroad, it was left to the owners to cash in as Hondo delivered a perfectly timed turn to leave his rivals in his wake and pick up the £5,000 first prize.

There was some great racing for the Sky Sports viewers at home, notwithstanding veteran grader Allen Mile posting a marvellous 27.12secs in the opener.

It proved a great night for the connections of Allen Mile as they also saw their brilliant new pup, Bower Turbo, run away with the William Hill Radio Stakes, and justifying his 6-4 favourites tag despite being crowded at the first bend.

However, the performance of the night came from Cash For Kate in the marathon trip where the Brian Clemenson trained bitch spread-eagled her field to come home ten lengths clear.

She was winning her seventh race from eight starts, going down only in the recent TV Trophy.

Cash For Kate is now being aimed at the Tech Shop UK Marathon Trophy over 845 metres here in July when she is likely to come up against TV Trophy victor Spiridon Louis.

Coventry handler John Mullins, who is getting the hang of the Sandy Lane circuit, pulled off a fine treble with Blonde Chico being the star turn, knocking some 12 spots of the 250 metre sprint track record when posting 14.76.
