Curtly Slatter continued his excellent early-season form as he bludgeoned Oxfordshire Under 12s to a resounding seven-wicket victory over Gwent at Stonesfield.

Slatter finished unbeaten on 60 as Oxon put their Welsh visitors to the sword in ruthless fashion to secure their second successive victory.

Gwent won the toss and batted first on a good track, but Oxon's bowlers were disciplined throughout to restrict them to 162-7 from their 45 overs.

They initially struggled to make a breakthrough as Gwent's openers put on 36 for the first wicket.

But when Hamza Hussain made the breakthrough, wickets began to tumble at regular intervals.

Hussain was on a hat-trick after removing Gwent's No 3 for a first-ball duck, thanks to a magnificent catch from wicketkeeper Adam Muttitt.

The introduction of spin put more pressure on the visiting batsmen, but it was Hussain who was the pick of the bowling, finishing with excellent figures of 4-18 from his eight overs.

Oxfordshire's reply was built around a solid 48 not out from opener Josh Garrett.

With Michael Forrest, the pair put together an opening stand of 52.

Oxfordshire lost two quick wickets, with Muttitt and Ben Richards falling with the score on 70.

But that brought Slatter to the crease and he began patiently, clinically despatching anything loose straight to the boundary.

It was an unbroken 93-run partnership that steered Oxfordshire to victory with 13 overs to spare.
