MIKE Fondop scored twice as Oxford City put their torrid run of form behind them with a superb 3-1 victory at Bath City last night.

The new signing, who joined from Billericay Town before Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Eastbourne Borough, netted in the 79th and 89th minutes of the Vanarama National League South clash.

It ended a dismal run of just one point from seven matches, after City’s opening-day success over Welling.

However, there were mixed emotions for two of City’s three other new faces, who had all joined the club on loan from Oxford United earlier in the day.

Jonny Giles levelled after Nick McCootie put the hosts ahead.

But James Roberts, who had a spell at City last season, was sent off for a dangerous tackle on George Rigg two minutes before the interval.

Josh Ashby was the other United man to make the switch across the city.

The home side started well, Nick McCootie breaking free in the early stages, but he was thwarted by Jack Stevens.

Fondop then wasted a chance at the other end.

The home side went ahead on 28 minutes when a mix-up in City’s defence allowed McCootie the opportunity to score in to an empty net.

City’s task became harder when Roberts saw red, but five minutes into the second half they deservedly levelled when Giles let fly from 25 yards, giving Max O’Leary no chance.

The goal lifted City and they went in front 11 minutes from time when Jordy Ngathe sent a long ball forward that was collected by Fondop who scored.

After surviving a scramble in front of their goal, City then broke and Fondop curled a sweet effort beyond the reach of the keeper and seal the points a minute from time.

Oxford City: Stevens, Ngathe, Grant, Fleet, Cundy, Poko, Davies (Isaac 76), Ashby, Fondop, Roberts, Giles (Winters 76). Subs not used: Soares, Ofosu, Neto.
