The visitors, who elected to bat, declared on 345-9 off 83.3 overs in their first innings, with Joe Clarke top-scoring with 119 off 176 balls.
Medium-pacer Jack Grundy took 3-41 for Oxford.
Their reply did not get off to the best of starts, with Steve Leach caught at leg slip off the bowling of Josh Tongue, who also dismissed Matthew Laidman.
The hosts did not lose another wicket as they closed on 22-2 after ten overs.
