JONJOE Kenny will stay at Oxford United for the rest of the season after his loan from Everton was extended for a second time.

The 19-year-old has started 12 games for the U's since joining in January, following George Baldock's recall by MK Dons.

Kenny missed the club's Easter games after being called up by England Under 19s, where he started one fixture and was a substitute in another as Aidy Boothroyd's side booked their place at the European Under 19 Championships this summer.

The right back, whose initial 28-day loan was extended last month, will return to U's training tomorrow as they prepare for Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Barnsley at Wembley.

With Michael Appleton having injury concerns over defenders Johnny Mullins and Joe Skarz, the U's boss is pleased to ensure Kenny will be part of the squad for the run-in.

He said: “He has done really well for us and is enjoying his football.

"He is highly thought of at Goodison and has a big future and we are happy to have him here until the end of the season."

As with the deal which kept George Waring on loan at the U's from Stoke City, Kenny's arrangement would see him remain at the club if they were involved in the Sky Bet League Two play-offs.
