LES Taylor believes Oxford United should not have been beaten at Aston Villa after seeing his side go down to a 2-1 defeat.
United suffered their second successive loss in FA Women’s Super League Two, despite taking the lead.
Ini Umotong lifted the ball over Villa keeper Jess Myers to give Oxford the lead on seven minutes.
The U’s had several opportunities to extend their lead during the first half, most of which fell to Umotong.
But Katie Wilkinson equalised for the hosts five minutes before the break, lobbing Demi Lambourne.
Villa enjoyed the better of the second half and with 20 minutes remaining Jess Frampton handled in the penalty area.
Wilkinson’s penalty was saved, but Beth Merrick tucked home the rebound.
United rallied with Laura Nichol going close, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
Manager Taylor said: “We caused them real problems in the first half and deservedly took the lead.
“But we are victims of our own mistakes and it’s a game we should have got a result out of.
“We had good chances and if you stick them away you come into half-time 3-1 up – it’s a different game then.
“Instead, at 1-1, the home team are going to come at you in the second half, which is what Villa did.”
