County captain Justine Lawrence took the honours in the Oxfordshire Ladies Silver Spring Meeting at Tadmarton Heath.

Despite nursing a back injury, the Henley player just pipped Tadmarton's Maureen McInnes for first place with 37 points.

Lawrence will captain Oxfordshire in County Week from June 18 to 22 when they take on Berks, Bucks, Hampshire and Herts at Goring & Streatley.

Chipping Norton junior Claire Reynolds snatched third place with 35 points on countback from Tadmarton's Thelma Mawle.

The best front nine went to Susie Hogben, from Carswell, who scored a very creditable 22 points, while Frilford's Jean Lees won the best back nine with 21.

Sue Arrighi and Wendy Nathan, from The Springs, won the afternoon nine-hole Stableford Foursomes with 21 points.

Frilford's Margaret Glennie and Angela Payne were second on 18, with Rachel Hall and Muriel Quinsac from Henley third on 17 points.

They pipped Chipping Norton's Jane Sweeting and Mary Smith and Sheila Jones and Rhiannan Davies on countback.

  • Frilford ladies' champion Jane Binning failed to make the cut on her Telia Tour debut in Sweden, but still found it a tremendous experience.

Binning, 24, who found the greens very difficult, admitted: "It was like putting on glass."

  • The Oxfordshire's head professional, Steven Gibson, will be moving to Wentworth in Surrey on June 19 after three and a half years service at the club.
