Barry Logan ended a long wait for his first winner when he rode He's A Dinger to a shock 20-1 victory at a rain-soaked Kingston Blount, near Chinnor.

Logan, who trains the eight-year-old at Marsh Gibbon, near Bicester, first rode in point-to-points in his native Northern Ireland more than ten years ago.

But it wasn't until Sunday's meeting that he finally opened his account as he brought He's A Dinger home by two lengths from Trizzy in the restricted.

"It's great - it's fantastic - but it's all over in a flash," said Logan, who is the manager of Charles Tyrwhitt's tailors shop at Bicester Village, after dismounting.

The 28-year-old bought He's A Dinger, who had been qualified with the Cumberland Hunt, on the recommendation of Liam Lennon, a friend from Northern Ire- land.

"I was just looking for something to have a bit of fun with, but he's turned out a bit better, so it's a big thanks to Liam," he added.

James Owen, who hails from Piddington, near Bicester, won an incident-packed open maiden on Young Rocky.

Always A Brownie crashed out through the wing of a fence early on, but the real drama came at the fifth last when leaders Mad Professor and Me Julie fell independ- ently.

That left the leg-weary Iris's Dream in the lead, and Young Rocky in second.

But James Tudor remounted Mad Professor in a flash and was back in the lead by the third last.

However, his mount was out on his feet by the final fence and Owen brought Young Rocky through to win by three lengths, with Me Julie, who was also remounted, 25 lengths back in third.

Owen, who is now based at Ampton in Suffolk, said: "I got hampered at the ditch first time and from then on I just tried to get round. I wasn't really thinking about winning the race."

Tudor, on his 24th birthday, suffered more grief in the following men's open when his mount, Tanager, slipped up on the bend coming down the hill for the second time when on the heels of leader Meggie's Lad.

The pacesetter was finally overhauled at the last by Razer Blade, who ran on strongly to beat Chaucers Miller by two lengths under 19-year-old Ryan Mahon.

The ladies' open went to Father Tom, who was produced by Polly Gundry at the second last to beat Move Over by ten lengths.

Newcomer Dante's Storm was backed down from 6-1 to 5-4 before landing a gamble in the confined maiden for trainer-rider Phillip York, who is based at Eppingham, Surrey.

And Godfrey Maundrell kept Lord Philip up to his work to beat lone rival Caber by half a length in the members.
