Talented teenager Steve Davis (pictured) has been given a glowing endorsement by Oxford City player-manager Justin Merritt after signing a one-year contract at Court Place Farm.

The 18-year-old, who plays at left back or in midfield, has attracted the attention of several other local clubs.

And so Merritt was particularly pleased to secure his services for another season.

He also believes the youngster will benefit considerably from assistant player-manager Mike Ford, who played at left back for Oxford United.

"It's good news for us," said Merritt. "He is very promising and talented.

"He is absolutely top drawer and I am hoping now we have got him for another year we can bring him on, especially with Mike Ford having played left back for so many years.

"I hope he can go on and player at a higher level. I really think he has got a chance."

Mark Jones has also signed for another season at City, who have snapped up striker Chris Hill and left back Adam Richmond form Ardley United.

Hill scored 32 goals for the Sport Italia Hellenic League outfit last season, while Richmond enjoyed a good season in defence.

"They are trying to step up and prove that they can do it at the next level, and I am sure than can," added Merritt.

PAUL Lee, a former Oxford City boss, has agreed to remain as first-team manager at Kidlington for next season.

He will again by assisted by Kelvin Alexis.

Kidlington are looking to appoint a new management team for the reserves after Warren and Lee Jones stepped down due to work and family commitments.

Pre-season training resumes at the Yarnton Road ground on Thursday, June 28 (7pm).
